2004 PhotoThera Science & Technology Scholarship
June 03, 2004/Carlsbad, Calif. - Since 2003, PhotoThera, Inc., a medical device company located in Carlsbad, Calif., has awarded a yearly scholarship of $1000 to a student in need of financial assistance who is planning to go to college.
This year, PhotoThera chose a deserving young scholar from San Diego High School, which has its own School of Science and Technology. The school also participates in the Advancement Via Individual Determination program (AVID). AVID is an in-school academic support program that prepares students for college eligibility and success.
Students submitted a one-page essay on ways in which they could contribute to the Science and Technology in the future and reasons why their contributions would be important. All submitted essays were ranked by the PhotoThera team.
This year, PhotoThera awarded the $1,000 scholarship to Smith Mengheang. This student’s insightful essay offered ideas to improve technology and to develop a cure for Diabetes.
Smith Mengheang was recognized on senior awards night at San Diego High School, on June 3, 2004.
